GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

• All articles and reviews should follow the current edition of the MLA Style Manual. All references to sources, both critical and textual, should be cited parenthetically in the text of your article or review. A list of Works Cited should be appended at the end of the article or review with complete bibliographical information. Reviews should not have endnotes.
• All submissions should be typed double-spaced throughout. Quote as little as possible from other texts. Use American spelling and punctuation.
• Contributors of assigned book reviews or solicited essays should make every effort to stay within the word limits included with the initial letter from the editors. If you have a good argument for making the review or essay longer than the assigned length, please discuss it with us in advance of submitting the completed article. Reviews of individual books will usually range from 600-1500 words; articles will usually range from 2500-3000 words.
• All submitted material should be in English; quotations from non-English texts should be translated into English. The foreign language original may appear in the endnotes, if there is a reason to include it.
• Two copies of the original manuscript should be sent by regular mail, along with a copy on a 3.5" computer disk formatted for an IBM-compatible computer (preferably using Microsoft Word). This is very important so that we may avoid delay and mistakes.
• Drafts of book reviews or sections of articles may be sent by e-mail (mailto:orr@beta.tricity.wsu.edu ).
• The purpose of a review or review-essay is to inform our readers about new and important contributions to the ongoing dialogues in European modernism. While the reviewer will want to provide the reader with a precis of the topics covered and the arguments advanced in the book, it is not the object of a review to summarize the book. Rather it is to evaluate the contribution the author makes to the field and assist the reader in determining the ways in which the reader may (or may not) find this book useful in research or teaching.
• Book reviews should begin with the following information, in this order: Author Last Name, Author First Name, Full Title of the Book, Place of Publication, Publisher’s Name, Year of Publication, number of pages, number of illustrations, b&w or color, $xx.xx cloth, $xx.xx paper. At the end of the review, have the reviewer’s name, department, and institutional affiliation.
• All manuscripts must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage for return. If the manuscript is "disposable," include a stamped business-size envelope for our response.
• Include a contributor’s note (just two or three sentences long) indicating your university affiliation, research interests, and some recent or forthcoming publications.
• On the top of your manuscript include your full mailing address, your office phone number, and, if you have them, a fax address and an e-mail address. This information can speed up the process of responding to your work.
