WSU Tri-Cities

Office of Veterans Affairs

The Office of Veterans Affairs is here to support those who have defended our country and their eligible dependent(s).

Are You a Veteran and a Student?

If you are a Veteran of the Armed Forces and a student, come to Room 201 West Building, WSU Tri-Cities. We offer assistance in gaining access to the benefits you have earned. Walk-in use is from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Other times may be made by appointment.

Veterans Outreach Center

The Veterans Affairs outreach center houses, both the benefits certifying office and the Vet CORP representative. The office provides a one-stop shop for student veterans seeking information about educational and community benefits. It is also the mission of the Veterans Affairs outreach center to provide networking opportunities with student and community organizations to new and continuing students.

The Veteran’s Club is the student veterans organization at WSU Tri-Cities. It is made up of veterans who have served in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The Veterans Club’s mission is to raise awareness and advocate on behalf of veterans issues concerning veterans benefits, influence related veteran’s legislation, and to provide on- and off-campus activities.

Whether you’re a veteran transitioning into college and civilian life for the first time, or perhaps a veteran who has just graduated and is seeking employment in today’s work force, the Veterans Affairs outreach center is a great information source to help all.

The Veterans Club organizes several events throughout the year for our veteran students. Some of those events are our annual Veterans Day Memorial ceremony, barbecues and other similar activities. Information about or how to get involved in these and other events can be obtained at the Veterans Affairs Outreach Center.

If you’re interested in becoming involved with the Veterans Club or looking for veterans resources, visit Jason Alves in the Veterans Affairs Outreach Center, West 201.

WSU Tri-Cities is a Veteran Supportive Campus

Washington State University Tri-Cities is now recognized as a Veteran Supportive Campus. Veterans now make up 10 percent of the student body at WSU Tri-Cities.

To formally establish the partnership, a Memo of Understanding was signed by Mike Gregoire, husband to Gov. Chris Gregoire and friend to veterans; Alfie Alvarado-Ramos, deputy director of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs; and Vicky L. Carwein, chancellor, WSU Tri-Cities.

The program included remarks by WSU President Elson S. Floyd and Alexis Sanchez, a nursing student who was deployed to Iraq in 2008 with the Washington Army National Guard. It concludes with the issuing of WSU Tri-Cities veterans challenge coins and a reception with the Veterans Club Association and Support.

WSU Tri-Cities helps veterans succeed in higher education by increasing awareness of veterans programs on and off campus, implementing policies that foster social support, and promoting a welcoming environment that meaningfully acknowledges the contributions of veterans. In addition, the partnership ensures that WSU Tri-Cities student veterans are offered access to the Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs for a review of their individual needs, potential benefits, and assistance in obtaining benefits and care.
