Workshops and Consultations

Workshops
Workshops are designed to inform and educate participants about leadership topics such as presentation skills, leadership theories and styles, involvement opportunities at WSU, goal-setting and much more. These programs are typically suitable for all audiences and individual needs and can be designed specifically for your organization's needs. If you have any specific questions about the services or resources provided by the Cougar Leadership Program email belong@tricity.wsu.edu to contact the workshop coordinator.

Examples of our most-requested workshop topics:

Leadership Personalities and Styles
A common facilitation includes a leadership inventory like the True Colors quiz and a teambuilding activity. This workshop shows participants their leadership strengths and their improvement areas as well as providing an activity to practice working with other leadership styles. The objective of this facilitation is to help individuals recognize their strengths and to help participants appreciate the strenghts in others. This type of workshop is beneficial to every leader as well as to every team.

"I learned a lot about myself and the improvements for my leadership style." -WSU Student

Teambuilding
This facilitation topic focuses on bringing out the best in a team and can range from simple icebreakers to complex activities designed to develop a team. The objectives for a teambuilding workshop includes improving communication, motivating, identifying the strengths of team members, and improving team productivity. This is beneficial to all organizations because participants learn how to work together and it is very interactive which keeps participants engaged.

"It was fun, light and had lots of great content." -WSU Student

Conflict Resolution/Communication
Many times conflicts arise from communication problems so this is the perfect facilitation topic for organizations that may be experiencing conflict. There are a variety of activities that encourage discussion as well as show participants effective conflict resolution and communication techniques.

Goal Setting
Is your organization at a standstill? This facilitation is a great way to brainstorm organizational goals and/or to develop personal development plans. Participants will be motivated and prepared for success regardless if the focus of the workshop is on the organization or the individuals.

Consultations
Consultations are much like having your own personal or organizational "consultant." Work with an experienced professional staff member to create a personal or organizational leadership development plan. Our staff will then continue to work with you and your organization to monitor your development towards goals and help you set new ones along the way.
Individuals can work with experienced professional staff members to create a personal leadership development plan to help you identify the skills you need to improve in and ways in which you can develop those skills, including goal-setting, personal mission statement, motivating and supervising others, communication, and much more.

Organizations can get help to identify strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities for growth. One of our experienced professional staff members will work with you to develop an assessment of the organization's operations, membership programs, strategic plan, and much more. We will then help you develop a plan to improve and help you monitor your progress throughout the year.
