This course provides social science majors and others with research skills for obtaining and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data online. In the first part of the course, students will learn to access, screen, and utilize WSU and Internet textual and numeric data, including from scholarly journals, The New York Times, and US Census Bureau. In the second part of the course, students will use SPSS for Windows to produce descriptive statistics of data collected earlier in the course. Students will select a topic & produce a research report by the end of the six-week course. The class will be conducted in the Instructional Computer Lab. No prior computing experience required or necessary; sense of adventure and willingness to learn a must!
