Reading Notes Guidelines

• Succinctly summarize one important theme/issue from the week's required readings;

What are the author's key points, the structure of his/her argument?  (Note: it is often useful to define key terms as part of this.)

• Critically engage with the author;

What is useful (or not) about the author’s perspective on that theme/ issue with regard to one or more contemporary social problems?  Make an argument or counter-argument ...

• Be well written – use paragraphs, formal citations, proofread and spell-check;

Citations for the primary text may be abbreviated (e.g. Reader, p. 220).

• Be 1-2 pp. (typed, double-spaced) in length; and
   
• Include your name, campus, course number, and submission date on the top left corner of the first page.

VANCOUVER ONLY: 

• For quicker turn-around, submit your Reading Notes via e-mail to soc@beta.tricity.wsu.edu.  Include two copies:  one imbedded in your e-mail, plus a second as an attached formatted text file or document.  MS Word '97 format preferred.
