Critical Commentary Guidelines

• Succinctly summarize one important theme/issue from the week's required readings;

What are the author's key points, the structure of his/her argument?  (Note: it is often useful to define key terms as part of this.)

• Critically engage with the author;

What is useful (or not) about the author’s perspective on that theme/issue as it relates to social problems in his time or ours? What insights might the text have (or not) related to your research interests?  Make an argument or counter-argument ...

• Be well written – use paragraphs, formal citations, proofread and spell-check;

Citations for the primary text may be abbreviated (e.g. Reader, p. 220).

• Be a maximum of 500 words in length;
   
• Be circulated by electronic mail to the instructor, TA,  and other graduate students no later than 8:00 am, Monday.  Please imbed one copy of your commentary in the body of your e-mail, and attach a second copy, as a double-spaced document file; and
   
• Include your name, campus, course number, and submission date on the top left corner of the first page.
