This is part of a three-week long unit on qualitative research methods. The first week (Wk 7) focused on field research (observational) methods; the second (Wk 8) on historical research methods; the third (Wk 9) on methods of qualitative data analysis. The unit included two research practica, on field research and historical research methods, respectively. Both generated 'raw data'.
For Assignment #3, you are to choose one of these two sets of 'raw data', develop it further, and write it up as a formal, analytical, preliminary research paper. You are welcome to supplement your field or archival research with use of additional, relevant secondary research materials, including published, peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles.
In your essay, identify your research question and hypotheses, describe your sources of data and research methods, summarize and discuss your key findings, end with suggestions for further research. Properly quote, cite, and reference all material. Include a complete list of sources. Your essay should be 3-5 pp. in length (plus cover sheet and references, typed, double-spaced, spell-checked, 12 pt. type).
