THE MESA VISION
To support the national science and mathematics educational agenda by ensuring that MESA students develop a high level of literacy in mathematics and science so they can play a leading role within an increasingly technology-based world.
THE MESA MISSION
Washington State MESA works to support underrepresented students in achieving and contributing their full potential in mathematics, engineering and science.
MESA's mission is to:
- Provide enriching opportunities in mathematics, engineering and science for underrepresented students in grades K-12 through the use of exemplary materials and instructional approaches; and
- Be a catalyst and model for educational excellence and equity.
We accomplish this through a partnership of higher education, school districts, industry and business, government, community organizations, families and alumni.
THE MESA PROGRAM
By forming collaborations among business, industry and academia, MESA strengthens the university and corporate presence in K-12 education. For more than twenty years, MESA has bridged the opportunity gap for underrepresented students to help them envision a successful future and achieve their goals for college and careers.
MESA students struggle against stereotypes and low expectations everyday. With the help of volunteers in business and professional organizations, and teachers trained by MESA in the best educational practices, they learn strategies to succeed and meet role models and mentors who show them they way.
- MESA engages the curiosity of elementary students with hands-on activities in science and math.
- MESA helps students stay on-track for college as they transition from middle school to high school.
- MESA provides students with incentives and scholarships to help them overcome obstacles to achievement.
- MESA informs and empowers parents to help their children to achieve success in school and gain access to college education.
- MESA offers teacher workshops and on-line classes to improve science and mathematics education with challenging curriculum aligned with state and national standards.
