  The Strategic Planning Program for Corporate Executives of a Growing Firm

The Advanced Business Management Program, offered through WSU Tri-Cities Business LINKS, is designed for the established business owner, CEO’s and Corporate Executives who wish to increase profitability through improved organization, management, and operation of their business. Benefits include: practical information on business principles and trends that can be applied to your business immediately and the opportunity to learn from other business owners facing similar challenges.

How will I benefit?

The seminars are instructed by business professionals, and include a working lunch and a forum for networking and mentoring with other business owners through round table discussions. The seminar series focuses on specific business topics including marketing, financials, cash flow management, personnel issues, legal issues, and risk management planning. Businesses may attend the entire seminar series or an individual session. In addition, each registered business can take advantage of personalized and confidential assistance by a Business LINKS counselor to assist in applying seminar information and addressing your specific business issues. The seminars are:

Strategy Formation for Existing Businesses

  • Develop your skills in identifying key business issues and problems
  • Understand the impact of changes in the external environments
  • Improve your ability to make quality business decisions
  • Learn how to develop and improve your firm’s competitive advantage


Marketing and Communications Strategies

  • The What’s Family?- what do customers want, what do they value most , what does the competition do well or not so well, what's going on within the industry that could impact my business
  • Identify ways to use market research in every day business operations
  • Develop ideas for a media mix to maximize return on investment


Financial Budget and Planning Strategies

  • Identify essential financial statements and what goes into them
  • Translate business ratios into a planning tool
  • Learn how to budget your cash flow, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable for maximum advantage
  • Develop growth projections
  • Determine when to consider debt financing, venture capital or going public


Resource Management and Exit Strategies

  • Learn how to use human resources as a strategic business tool
  • Review best practices of human resource management
  • Reduce employee and business risk in workplace
  • Determine the best insurance coverage to reduce overhead costs
  • Now that I built it, how do I get out of it?

Selection Criteria

In order to provide the maximum benefit to all participants, seminars will be limited to 15 non-competing businesses. Qaulified participants meet the following criteria::

  • Be the business owner, CEO or Corporate Executive with active daily involvement of the business,
  • Be established and operating for at least one year and on a full-time basis, may be for profit or not-for-profit,
  • Understand that seminars are educational and participatory in nature.

Tuition and Schedule

Tuition for the Advanced Business Management Program is $525 per seminar session. Some scholarships are available to reduce the registration fee for qualified applicants.
The registration allows up to two participants from the business to attend, lunch, refreshments, and participant materials.
