The Writing Portfolio Requirement consists of two parts.  One part is taking a two hour Timed Write Essay exam and the other part is turning in a Papers Packet.

The Portfolio Timed Write Essay exam:

2 hours is the maximum time allowed, however you may finish any time sooner.  You will receive two prompts and write one essay to each prompt (for a total of two essays).  You will need to bring with you to the exam

  • blue or black ink pen to write with (no pencils or erasable ink allowed)
  • picture ID
  • you must know your WSU ID number (WSU ID is fine for both).

You will be provided with blue books and a dictionary will be available.  You              may bring a dictionary from home, but it has to be non electric and stand alone             (ie not a thesaurus/dictionary combination).

The Portfolio Papers Packet.

You will need three original, graded papers from different courses written at the university/college level (can be from same instructor, has to be from different classes).  The Portfolio Papers Packet materials may be purchased in the Bookie for about $1.00.  This will provide you with the coversheets for each paper and the envelope to turn all the papers in in.

If you would like, instead of purchasing the Packet Materials form the Bookie, you can download what you need and purchase an envelope to put the papers in.

  • Download the cover sheets for your papers here.  You will need three cover sheets, one for each paper
  • Download the cover sheet for your envelope that holds all of your papers here.  The envelope must be size 10" x 13".

You can take the Timed Write Essay exam before, after or at the same time when you turn in your Papers Packet.  Call Mary Bauer or email to set up a time to take the exam.  If you have a Writing Portfolio hold that is not allowing you to register, you will need to complete at least half of the requirement before the hold can be released (I.E. turn in the papers packet or take the Timed Write)

WSU TC Junior Writing Portfolio is all the information you will need to know about your Mandatory Writing Portfolio Requirement.
