Admission to the Major
Successful completion of program course requirements alone does not guarantee admission to the teacher preparation program.  In order to be considered for admission, students must submit a WSU Undergraduate Application (if not already a WSU student) as well as a Departmental Application in accordance with departmental deadlines.  Departmental application deadlines are:

October 1 for Spring semester admission

March 1 (effective 2009) for Fall semester admission

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required.  All program requirement courses must be passed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher.

To be considered for admission to the teacher preparation program at WSU Tri-Cities, applicants must have completed the following courses:  6 semester credits of English composition, public speaking, general psychology, human development, 3 semester credits of Math for Elementary School Teachers, and two science courses.
Additionally, prior to admission, applicants must have 80 hours of supervised work with children or youth, and a passing score on the Washington Educators Skill Test – Basic (WEST-B). Information on this exam can be found at http://www.west.nesinc.com

Elementary Education Course Requirements

It is the desire of the College of Education, as well as the State of Washington, to prepare the best possible teachers. Thus, we reserve the right to seek the most highly qualified individuals for admission to the program. Simply meeting the application requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

The Future Teachers Conditional Scholarship and Loan Repayment Program is designed to encourage outstanding students and paraprofessionals to become teachers, and encourage current teachers to obtain additional endorsements in teacher shortage subjects. Details on the program can be found here.
