Who Are the Friends of the Benitz Library?

The Friends are a support group for the Benitz Library.

The Max E. Benitz Memorial Library is the branch campus library for Washington State University (WSU) at Tri-Cities in Richland, Washington. The Benitz Library is a component of the Consolidated Libraries housed in the Consolidated Information Center on the WSU Tri-Cities campus.

The Consolidated Libraries also include the Hanford Technical Library and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Public Reading Room. The Hanford Technical Library is operated by the Battelle Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to serve the Laboratory, the Hanford contractors, and the DOE Richland Operations Office. The DOE Public Reading Room is the public information outlet for the DOE for the Columbia Basin region.

The Friends of the Max E. Benitz Memorial Library provide gifts of materials and gifts of funding for the purchase of materials for the Library collections. In addition, the Friends provide gifts of funding to support WSU student workers in the Library under the Benitz Library Working Scholars program. Significantly, the Friends also work to support the public funding efforts for the Benitz Library and the whole Tri-Cities campus.

The Friends of the Max E. Benitz Memorial Library are a chapter of the Friends of the Washington State University Libraries, and both organizations are units of the Washington State University Foundation, the fund raising arm for the University.
