The Columbia Crimson Golf Classic is another example of how WSU alumni — from multiple campuses and eras — are supporting students at WSU Tri-Cities and showing leadership in the community.
A grassroots committee reorganized this Tri-Cities golf tournament, formerly sponsored by the WSU Athletics Department. Recent graduates, long-time alumni, and WSU Tri-Cities staff combined to promote Cougar pride and enthusiasm.
“Everyone on the committee felt very strongly that funds raised needed to stay within this community. Scholarships for students at WSU Tri-Cities seemed like the perfect fit,” said Kathi Christensen, Crimson Classic committee chair.
The inaugural golf tournament, held in May 2012, raised more than $14,000 and provided Columbia Crimson Alumni Scholarships to nine WSU Tri-Cities students majoring in business, education, and liberal arts.
