Community invited to join WSU Tri-Cities for Cougar Pride Days campus and neighborhood clean-up projects in April

Students and the community will join forces the first weekend in April to beautify Washington State University Tri-Cities and to help transform a neighborhood in West Richland.

Cougar Pride Days are part of Cougs In The Community, a new service-based learning program at WSU Tri-Cities initiated by Chancellor H. Keith Moo-Young and Monika Moo-Young.

Cougs in the Community provides an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, family members and community partners to demonstrate good citizenship and make a difference in the Tri-Cities. This program is especially designed to give students an opportunity to engage in civic activities and network while having fun sharing knowledge, skills, and resources in a volunteer environment.

Two projects are planned:

  • Friday, April 4 — Volunteers will beautify the WSU Tri-Cities campus in Richland with outdoor projects from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., including painting, cleaning, gardening. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Saturday, April 5 — Cougs will team with Habitat for Humanity to help residents in the Desert View Park, a manufactured home community in West Richland where all residents have been asked to repaint their homes by the end of May. Many of these homeowners are elderly, disabled or have other circumstances that mean they need help completing yard cleanup and home repairs. The Habitat for Humanity project is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families are welcome, although minors must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or club advisor.
