African Reformation lecture, noon, East Auditorium
Lecture: "Pastors, Prophets, and Pentecostals: A History of the African Reformation"
This lecture explores how Africa moved from a peripheral to a core part of Christendom during the past 200 years. Joel E. Tishken, assistant professor of history at WSU Pullman, will examine the spread of Catholicism and forms of Protestantism in most every region of Africa, starting in the mid-19th century. As European forms of Christianity took root some Africans challenged those churches on racial, theological and ecclesiastical grounds.
This lecture is free and open to the public. Part of the College of Arts & Sciences 2012-2013 Season of Events.
