Cancelled: State of the University address
WSU State of the University Address postponed from Oct. 17
PULLMAN, Wash. – The State of the University Address by Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd has been postponed to allow him to attend funeral services for William C. Friday, former president of the University of North Carolina (UNC). Originally set for Wednesday, Oct. 17, the address will be rescheduled in spring.
"William Friday was a mentor to me,” said Floyd. "It is regrettable that I must postpone my address to the university, but it is important I pay my respects to this great leader who had such a profound impact on my life and on the North Carolina system he once led.
Friday is credited with steering the UNC system through three decades of tumultuous growth. He retired as president in 1986, after molding that state’s public colleges and universities into a single system and increasing its student body eightfold.
