- Econ 451 Introduction to Micro and Macro Economics 3 Prereq admission to MBA program. Topics in calculus and principles of micro- and macro-economics for entering MBA students.
- MgtOp 451 Business Statistical Analyses 3 Prereq admission to MBA program. Advanced preparation for graduate-level business analyses, applied finite math and statistics principles.
- Acctg 550 Introduction to Financial and Managerial Accounting 3. Fundamentals of financial and managerial accounting; primarily for graduate students who wish to meet the MBA core requirements in accounting.
- B Law 210 Law and the Legal Environment of Business 3. Fundamentals of business law; the legal system, legal reasoning, public, commercial, managerial and property law, and government regulation.
- Mktg 360 Marketing 3. Functions, methods, and middlemen used in marketing the principal types of goods; price policies, cost of marketing; government regulation.
- MgtOp 340 Operations Management 3 Prereq Dec S 215. Management of production and service operations with an emphasis on quality management; planning and control of workflow; resource allocation, and utilization.
- Fin 325 Finance 3 Prereq Acctg 231, MgtOp 215, Econ 101. Financial decision making, financial strategies, investment in current and fixed assets, financial instruments, and capital markets.
II. Strategic Leadership (12 credits) - (required as part of the MBA Program of Study.)
- MgtOp 590: Strategy Formulation and Organizational Design 3. Relationship between the formulation of strategy and the selection of effective organizational structures and systems.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of strategic management and organizational theory, emphasizing the relationship between those two bodies of knowledge. The organization theory and design portion of the course reviews both traditional and contemporary approaches to problems of management, and organization structure as part of the strategy implementation process. Strategic management deals with analysis of the internal and external environments, strategy formulation and selection of mission and strategic goals. Case studies are used to integrate theory with actual business practice and analyze business situations using conceptual tools from both portions of the course.
- MgtOp 591: Statistical Analysis for Business Decisions 3 Prereq Dec S 215, Math 201, 202. Analytical skills for decision-making; data collection and analysis, sampling, inferential, regression methodologies, experimental design, time series, forecasting analysis.
This course develops the analytical skills required to recognize and identify organizational problems, and gather and analyze relevant data for productive decisions. This course introduces state-of-the-art information systems and the statistical methods to analyze the firm’s competitive environments. It focuses on the value and interpretation of these analyses and applies them to real business problems.
- MgtOp 593: Managerial Leadership and Productivity 3. Organizational behavior and human motivation in the workplace; organization and leadership theories, studies, projects and models leading to improved productivity.
This course provides both knowledge and skills development in organizational behavior and human motivation in the workplace. It emphasizes the relationship between organization behavior and building a diverse and productive workforce. It encourages the development of business writing and presentation skills. This course includes the theories of human motivation and their managerial applications. Thus, experiential activities, group projects, skill building activities, and human resource techniques are all important components. - MIS 580: Information Systems Management 3. Data processing organization; operations, application development, computer selection, management of computer personnel and systems.
The accelerating pace of change of information technology (IT) is having a dramatic impact on the ways in which businesses organize, and manage for competitive advantage. The integration of computational power and communications technologies makes new ways of doing business possible. This provides new opportunities for businesses in this era of globalization and international competition. MIS 580 is designed to help students understand the key IT issues facing senior leaders in the next decade. It is relevant both for those responsible for managing business units and for those managing the information systems functions in a company. This course covers: (1) the challenges of managing in an information age, (2) information technology and strategy, (3) information technology and organization, (4) managing information assets, and (4) special topics covering key issues that synthesize the models and frameworks discussed throughout the course.
III. Advanced Business Functions (9 credits) (required as part of the MBA Program of Study.)
- Acct 533: Administrative Control 3. Managerial evaluation of budgeting, cost accounting, and financial analysis techniques; their utilization in control of operations.
Cost Accounting and Administrative Control provides an overview of cost control systems and management’s responsibility for financial allocations. Traditional and new cost system approaches, developed in response to increased technological and global competition, are examined and their impact on business strategy and decision-making are explored. In addition to traditional accounting assignments, students work in groups preparing written case analyses which require continued development of team interaction and communication skills.
- Fin 526: Problems in Financial Management 3 Prereq Fin 325. Application of financial principles to problems in financial management; credit policy, capital budgeting, leasing and mergers, cash management.
This financial decision-making course utilizes the case method of instruction to help students discover and internalize more productive systems of thinking. Appropriate use of theory, development of analytical skills, and acquisition of factual materials are all important goals. A capstone, team-oriented project in this class requires students to understand and apply regulatory, investment, financing, accounting, and strategic principles in a global technological corporate environment. Sub-objectives are (1) to encourage conciseness and clarity of thought when faced with a great deal of financial information, (2) to develop skills required in formal report writing, and (3) to develop effective presentation skills.
- Mktg 506: Marketing Management and Administrative Policy 3. Marketing management and administrative policies as they relate to concepts, strategies, and decision-making.
Marketing Management and Policy provides an opportunity for students to develop and practice teamwork and analytical and communication skills in a dynamic business environment. It includes the integration of these skills with current marketing concepts through lecture, discussion and a major group project for an actual business or emerging technology. Working in teams, students identify and gather relevant data, analyze and interpret these in relation to an actual business or technology, and recommend appropriate marketing strategies. The final result is a complete marketing program recommendation for the business owner or technology innovator.
