John M. Thornton, PhD CIC 125F John M. Thornton, Associate Professor of Accounting, and Director of the Business Programs, received his PhD from WSU in 1996, and came to WSU’s Tri-Cities campus in 2000 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he served as faculty member and Director of Faculty Development, receiving the 1996/1997 outstanding management instructor award. He also holds a MAcc degree from WSU, and a BS from Central Washington University. Dr. Thornton’s research relates to accounting ethics, with applications to auditor litigation, regulation, and forensic accounting. He is a CPA and has held public accounting positions with Grant Thornton International (Seattle), Arthur O. Beck (Bellevue), and Knight Vale & Gregory (now McGladrey & Pullen, Tacoma). |

David Lemak, PhD CIC 125B David Lemak, PhD, Professor of Management, arrived at WSU Tri-Cities in 1991 after 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, including eight years on the faculty of the Air Force Academy. He received his PhD from
His research is multi-disciplinary, but centers around strategic management processes. He has explored a variety of topics such as quality management, strategy formulation, stakeholder theory, and most recently, the social/management issues of downsizing the U.S. nuclear weapons complex. His courses help students develop the skills and insights necessary to formulate and implement effective strategies and design organizations that can be responsive to increasing complex and dynamic external environments. Dr. Lemak teaches Strategy Formulation and Organization Design, is the Director for the Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship. |

He and coauthor Nagesh Murthy won the 2004 Decision Sciences Institute's Best Interdisciplinary Paper award for their work on auction analysis. James H. Thompson, PhD CIC 125K James H. Thompson, PhD, Associate Professor of Accounting, came to WSU Tri-Cities in January 2007 from Oklahoma City University where he taught for 15 years and served as department chair for 13 years. Previously, he taught at the University of Mississippi and Auburn University. He was named Oklahoma's Outstanding Accounting Educator in 2003 by the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and served as president of the Southwest Region of the American Accounting Association in 2002-2003. He completed his PhD at the University of Oklahoma in 1982, and also holds a MAcc degree from OU and a BS from Auburn University . His research interests relate primarily to financial reporting and auditing. Dr. Thompson teaches Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Financial Accounting and Auditing, and is advisor for the Business Club |

Joyce Wang, PhD CIC 125H Joyce Wang, PhD, Assistant Professor of Finance, came to WSU Tri-Cities in 2006 after receiving her PhD in Management Science with concentration in Finance from University of Texas at Dallas. She also holds a Master of Science degree in International Business from University of Lancaster, UK, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Finance from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, China. Dr. Wang's research interests are in the area of corporate finance and corporate governance. She teaches Financial Management and Investment Analysis. |

Elina Petrova, PhD CIC 125F Elina Petrova, PhD, Assistant Professor of Marketing, joined WSU Tri-Cities in 2007 after receiving her PhD degree in Industrial Administration (Marketing) from Carnegie Mellon University. She also holds a MS degree in Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Marketing from the University of Warwick, U.K., as well as a MS degree in Electronic Engineering from the Technical University, Sofia, Bulgaria. Dr. Petrova's research interests are in the area of quantitative analysis, modeling, and econometric estimation, with a focus on issues related to market performance and optimal allocation of marketing resources in the retail, pharmaceutical, and software industries. Her research has been published in the Journal of Marketing and Marketing Science. Her previous business experience involves work as a market analyst, project manager, business development manager, and general company manager in international companies operating in Bulgaria. |
