Admission

Adult Freshman

You’re considered an adult student for admission purposes if you will be at least 25 years or older on the first day of classes for the term in which you are applying and if you have earned fewer than 27 semester/40 quarter hours of transfer coursework.

If you’ve earned more than 27 semester/40 quarter hours of transferable credit, you should follow the transfer student admission steps.

In accordance with policy set by the Higher Education Coordinating Board, students 25 years of age or older are considered for admission on the basis of alternative criteria.

What you need to do

1. Fill out your application

  • If this is your first time to college, you'll need to fill out the freshman admission application.
  • If you've been to college and have taken some courses, fill out the transfer admission application.

2. Send your transcripts

  • Have your high school send us an official transcript with your graduation date. If you have a GED, have the testing agency send us your official GED score report.
  • If you have completed some college courses, have the college(s) you attended send us your official transcripts as well.

3. Send supporting material

Since transcripts alone won’t tell the story — it’s been a while since high school, maybe also a while since your last college class — we also give you the chance to provide other information and tell us a bit about your experiences since then.

In addition to complete high school (or GED) and college transcripts, please also send:

  1. A résumé covering the last five years; and
  2. A brief essay (no more than one page) addressing why you want to attend Washington State University.
