Requirements & Applying

Adult Students

You're considered an adult student for admission purposes if you will be at least 25 years or older on the first day of classes for the term in which you are applying and if you have earned fewer than 27 semester/40 quarter hours of transfer coursework.

If you've earned more than 27 semester/40 quarter hours of transferable credit, you should follow the transfer student admission steps .

In accordance with policy set by the Higher Education Coordinating Board, students 25 years of age or older are considered for admission on the basis of alternative criteria.

What you need to do (click to expand)

1. Fill out your application

  • If this is your first time to college, you'll need to fill out the freshman admission application.
  • If you've been to college and have taken some courses, fill out the transfer admission application.

2. Send your transcripts

  • Have your high school send us an official transcript with your graduation date. If you have a GED, have the testing agency send us your official GED score report.
  • If you have completed some college courses, have the college(s) you attended send us your official transcripts as well.

3. Send supporting material

If your high school GPA was 2.50 or higher, provide ONE of the following.
If your high school GPA was lower than 2.50, provide TWO of the following.

  • Official score reports from the SAT or ACT test
  • A narrative addressing these topics:
    - Why is a college education important to you?
    - Why are you interested in attending WSU?
    - How have you demonstrated the characteristics necessary to be successful in college?
  • A resume covering the period since you left high school, or the last five years, whichever is shorter.
