Winter and early spring are potentially the worst times for injuries due to slips, trips, and falls. Wear shoes with good footing and traction, and allow for extra time to get where you are going. Make an extra effort to be aware of your surroundings. Be especially careful when coming in from a wet or snowy environment- often the partially wet floor inside is more of a hazard than the icy walk you are coming from.

For those who drive and are over 55

West Nile Virus in Washington

Identification of WNV in Washington a mosquito pool confirms that WNV is here and that people should continue to decrease mosquito habitat around their homes and practice mosquito avoidance techniques.

Arboviral infections are a notifiable condition in Washington. Clinicians should consider WNV infection in any patients presenting with encephalitis or fever and a neurological syndrome of unknown etiology, and report suspected or confirmed cases to their local health jurisdiction.

Statewide Way to Go

Thanks to the efforts of Jerry Tangren and Jerry Moreland at Wenatchee TFREC, a large backlog of old unused computer related equipment will be properly recycled through WSU's recycling program. A new procedure for TFREC will be put into place to first encourage recycling as useable equipment to others, then to the WSU recycling program when it becomes unwanted and before it begins to accumulate. Thanks Jerry and Jerry for taking the initiative and time to make sure this type of equipment is properly recycled.
WAY TO GO Jerrys!
Steve Jordan at WSU Tri-Cities successfully arranged for crane certification and weight testing of an old crane which had been in the high bay lab for over 20 years and had never been weight tested because there was no record of certification. This required literally years of research. The company which was finally able to do it was Crane America Services of Woodinville, WA.
WAY TO GO Steve!
Jennifer Hogan has done an outstanding job of bringing Spokane Health Science Laboratories into safety compliance. This has involved starting from scratch - obtaining and organizing MSDS', developing training programs, chemical hygiene plans and biohazard lab certification.
WAY TO GO Jennifer!
