Already admitted to WSU Tri-Cities?
Follow these steps to preparing for New Student Orientation and Academic Advising
- Once admitted to WSU Tri-Cities, you will want to register for a [New Student Orientation].
- Orientation is where you will meet other new students, take a tour of the campus, learn ways to get involved at WSU Tri-Cities, get your picture taken for your WSU ID card, learn more about financial aid, meet with an academic advisor, register for your first semesters’ classes, and find out about helpful resources on campus.
- English Placement Exam:
- If you have not yet taken a college level English Composition course, you will need to take the [English Placement Exam]. All students are required to take at least one college level English Composition course. At WSU, it is listed as English 101 or 105 (ESL).
- Math Placement Exam:
- If you have not yet taken a college level math course, you should take the math placement exam, which is called [ALEKS]. This will determine the level of math you are able to register for.
- All students are required to take at least one college level math course for their degree. Some degrees require more than one math course. Later steps will help you in figuring out what courses are required.
- WSU’s online portal system is called [Zzusis]. This is the portal system for WSU that allows you to access resources such as your financial aid award, grades, registration for classes, etc.
- To set up your account, go to the [Zzusis] page
click on ‘Need Zzusis Help’
click on ‘Create Your Network ID’ and follow the steps from there
- You will need your WSU ID# and Temporary Access Network Key (TANK) to set up your account. You will find this on your admissions letter.
- You may need to stop at this step for a day or two. It can take up to 48 hours for the system to process your account set-up. Once you see a section on your main page marked ‘Student Links’, to include your ‘Degree Audit Report’ and ‘Registration’, you are set to continue.
- In the ‘Student Links’ section of your Zzusis account:
click on ‘Degree Audit Report’
click on ‘What If’ and select the degree you are interested in
click on ‘View with my browser’
- This is a report of all courses and credits you need to complete the degree, shows which classes have transferred in and shows how those classes have fulfilled requirements.
- Requirements that are in RED, still need to be completed. Requirements that are GREEN, have already been fulfilled.
- The degree audit may not be 100% accurate if you are currently enrolled in classes at another school and have not submitted your final transcripts.
- If you already have a degree (transferable AA or bachelor’s), you will not need any further general education courses. However, you are still held to the college and major requirements, which are listed on the degree audit.
- Pull up an [advising form] and begin filling it out, writing in courses you would like to take.
- Bring this with you when you come to orientation.
- If you need a more visual layout of your class schedule, you might find using the [schedule planning] worksheet helpful.
- You will meet with your academic advisor to review your course selections and register for your first semester’s classes at orientation.
- If you have questions that you would like answered before orientation, you are more than welcome to contact your advisor. Here is where you can check who your advisor will be: www.tricity.wsu.edu/ualc/meettheadvisors
- Meeting with an academic advisor is required at WSU, every semester. You will want to meet with your advisor no less than twice per year to discuss classes. Typically, you would meet with them in March and October, as these months will give you time to get your schedule settled before registration begins.
- You are welcome to meet with your advisor at any other time if you have questions or concerns.
